Episode 65
The Tongue – What are you speaking over your life?
During the 65th release of your favorite Podcast, Sozo and The Reverend went in on the tongue, with the conversation titled “The Tongue-What are you speaking over your life”? Their bold look at this unruly member, filtered through the Word of God as directed by His Spirit, provided fresh revelation to its hearers and allowed for its use for any believer in their continued conforming process to the image of Jesus Christ. Obeying the voice of the Spirit of God is the foundation for the hosts of The Spoken Verity Podcast, and the Spirit was moving and speaking during this week’s communion.
John 6:63 KJV states:
“It is the spirit that quickeneth; that gives life, the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
Friends, what do you speak out of your mouth? Is it life or death? Within our humanity, we lean on our 5 physical senses. These sensories compel us to think, speak and react to what we see and hear, primarily, although each natural sense also influences how we process and then live our lives. The reliance on our natural sense disposition, or specifically the flesh, to navigate this realm we live in, as opposed to relying upon and adhering to the whole counsel of God, as led by the Spirit of God, will ultimately produce death. This is sowing to, and walking after, the flesh and not sowing to and walking after the Spirit of God. The seeds of this death or life sowing is found in your heart. Death here, as a believer, is relational disconnection from God initially due to our unhealthy souls, which could lead to apostasy if left unchecked. The words we speak have power, and if we are speaking from the bent of our senses, our flesh, and not from the position of a believer walking by faith in the soul-saving, soul-renewing process, then those spoken words by us will produce death in our lives.
Our understanding of these truths and how they apply in our lives is central to us as believers fulfilling our purpose in the earth for our God. As we have contemplated in several episodes of TSV, what you think will produce what you say, which will govern what you do. You must engage with the Spirit of God to keep guard over your mouth and your heart. All of life’s actions derive from it. The operation of our speech is a function of our will, coming from our hearts posture. A healed spirit, evidenced by us receiving the atoning sacrifice for sin Jesus Christ, a healthy soul, evidenced by a clean heart and our mind renewal as led by the Spirit of God, will connect us to the mind of Christ, which will produce the thoughts and intents of Gods heart for our own lives. This will, in turn produce right speaking according to the Word of Truth. This is why we cannot lead ourselves in any respect. Our humanity will always default to the old sinful nature we put away when we received Christ when we take the lead of our lives and will lead to death. We must follow the leading of the Spirit of God, which is always after the counsel of his will. The life choice we must make here is to think, speak and do all as unto the Lord as directed by his Spirit.
Here is Scripture that directly speaks to who is in charge of your transformation process, concerning your whole being but specifically as it relates to where your words come from, while also highlighting what we have to do initially within it.
Ephesians 4:21-24 NLT says:
“Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.”
Friends, it is clear that the Spirit of God is in charge of our mind transformation, which, if you humbly participate, will bring you to a place of maturity in what you think, speak and do. In humble submission, you will engage with Holy Spirit, like King David did in Psalm 141:3 and parts of verse 4 (NIV), specifically:
“Set a guard over my mouth, Lord; keep watch over the door of my lips. Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds….”
You do this so that your heart won’t produce actions that are ungodly and that you will not speak out of your mouth what is against God’s word. This won’t be done perfectly but will demonstrate your Love and Fear of God in keeping his commands.
Allow Holy Spirit to do his work for your heart which will produce the right speaking according to the Word that you desire. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Holy Spirit’s way is life. Leading yourself in any manner produces death. Commit your tongue, and all that you are, to the conforming work of the Spirit of the Living God.
